The Rothschild Foundation is a proud supporter of Art History Link-Up, a registered charity offering free taught Art History Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) and A level courses for state maintained sector students delivered in museums and galleries on term-time Saturdays.

From September 2019, Art History for Everyone students will study for a taught EPQ at the Wallace Collection or the National Gallery. This will be taught alongside visual analysis of painting, sculpture and architecture, and two modules of the new Pearson A Level Art History course. Students have the option to study a further two modules and sit the A level exam at the end of the second year. The deadline for applications is 9th September. The courses are taught by experienced teachers in dedicated teaching space at the Wallace Collection or the National Gallery, with close access to the collections, and with visits to other museums and galleries arranged as appropriate to the topics being studied. Learning resources, homework club, snacks and all exam entrance fees are included free of charge. All places are offered at no charge to state maintained sector sixth form students, with priority to candidates from a widening participation background, and to those with aptitude and ability for the course.

The Wallace Collection course will run on Saturday mornings and the National Gallery course on Saturday afternoons from September 2019 to July 2020.Topics studied at the Wallace Collection will be “Nature in Art and Architecture” and “Power and Persuasion: the Baroque in Catholic Europe 1597-1685”, and at the separate National Gallery course, “Identities in Art and Architecture” and “Invention and Illusion: The Renaissance in Italy 1420-1520”.

The EPQ is an extremely flexible qualification, with students invited to make an investigation, dissertation, performance or artefact, and it is possible to submit more than one EPQ qualification. Students will be supported and mentored throughout the EPQ process, which will link to the A level course.

Art History A level is currently offered in few state maintained sector schools, eight at the last count. Yet since 2016, students from over 50 different state schools have studied Art History with us, learning alongside some of the greatest works of art in the world. All students are offered access to work experience at institutions including Art UK, the Royal Collection and the Victoria & Albert Museum, in addition to advice on FE/HE applications and careers, and membership of an alumni club. The courses are potentially life-changing, offering students access to a new subject, an additional qualification and UCAS points.
