The Rothschild Foundation manage the historic collection of paintings and furniture housed in the state rooms of Spencer House in London.
Ever since its creation for the First Lord and Lady Spencer between 1756 and 1766, Spencer House has been widely admired as one of the most beautiful houses in London. In 1985, following fifty years of commercial occupation and a series of unsympathetic adaptations, Lord Rothschild, through his company RIT Capital Partners, secured Spencer House under long lease.
Lord Rothschild led an extensive restoration project that brought together highly skilled craftsmen to restore the house to its original splendour. The newly restored house was officially reopened in 1990 by Diana, Princess of Wales, a direct descendant of the First Earl and Lady Spencer.
It is now one of London’s finest surviving eighteenth century aristocratic residences. Open for private events and occasional public viewing.
